The legend of Šárka is an old Czech myth, telling the story of a war in which women rebelled against the rule of men. Led by the fighter Vlasta, the women left their men in droves to live on their own, raised their own castle and waged bloody war on men. Men found them to be cunning enemies, and for a while all normal life in Bohemia was in disarray.
The army of women had suffered numerous losses to the warchief Ctirád and plotted against him. Beautiful Šárka was tied to a tree in a valley where Ctirád often went hunting. The women left her with a warhorn and a bowl of wine, and then hid nearby. When Ctirád rode past she called out to him, telling him that the women's army had abandoned her there for wanting to go back to her husband. He released her and she offered him the wine in return for her rescue. When she'd plied him with the wine and her beauty and he'd become drowsy in her arms she blew the warhorn, signaling to the women who came running out and killed him.
But Šárka had fallen in love with the strong and brave Ctirád and threw herself off a cliff in the valley in remorse.
I don't know what it is about this story, but I've liked since I first heard it. I think it's because, obviously, it's got everything; femslash, slash, het, gen, kink and a liberal dose of angst. Besides, I just like the idea of women rebelling against men, but then again I'm funny like that.
This will probably be a rarely updated journal, hopefully with some fics in it, if I ever get rid of the blasted writer's block.
